Manatees eat up to a hundred pounds of vegetation a day, which might lead one to conclude that solely changing to a vegetarian diet might not be sufficient to attain a less whale-like physique.
Alas, alack, some measure of portion control and recording is in order. The days of being young enough and active enough to “work off” binge eating are not just in the rear view mirror, they’re several states back, on an abandoned road that can never be driven on again.
I have always been described as “big-boned”, with wide shoulders and not entirely muscle free. However, even at 6’ 3”, no amount of big-boniness can countenance a weight of 273 pounds.
For the last thirty years, my weight has fluctuated between 240 and 300 pounds. I have many iterations of reducing calories, increasing exercise and sleep, and losing 20 pounds or more over a few months.
If I just hadn’t gained that lost weight back each time in the third month, I would now weigh -1,236 pounds, a human dirigible.
So, this time I had to try something new. The objectives were sound: eat healthily, exercise regularly, get adequate sleep and reduce stress. What needed to change was not WHAT was being done, but HOW to do it. Rather than the cookie-cutter plans I had adopted before, it was necessary to align the methodology with my personal motivations.
All I had to do was figure out what motivated me.

Hmmm… since I have the self awareness of a stone, this might be a challenge…
